Cookie Policy
In this policy we use the term “cookies” to refer to cookies, pixels, tags, clear gifs, web beacons, and other similar technologies that may be used on this website.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of data that a website asks your browser to store on your computer or mobile device. The cookie allows the website to "remember" your actions or preferences over time.
“Pixels,” “tags,” and similar technologies all refer to tagging scripts or small pieces of code (often JavaScript) are embedded on website pages. These tools allow us to collect data and track the activities of website visitors and app users, help us manage content, and compile statistics about website usage. You can manage these tools on our websites in the same way you can manage traditional website cookies as described below.
We and our service providers also use clear GIFs in HTML e-mails to our customers to help us track e-mail response rates, identify when our e-mails are viewed, and track whether our e-mails are forwarded.
Why do we use cookies and similar technologies?
We use cookies and similar technologies to learn how you interact with our content and to improve your experience when visiting our websites. For example, some cookies remember your language or preferences so that you do not have to repeatedly make these choices when you visit one of our websites. We also use cookies to help us with geolocation tracking in order to present you with the closest Shell station and office locations. Additionally, cookies allow us to serve you specific content, such as videos on our websites. We may employ the data we collect to serve you with targeted advertisements on third-party websites in an effort to “re-market” our products and services to you.
What types of cookies do we use?
We classify the cookies used on our websites into four categories:
- Functional cookies: We use these cookies to maintain our website and provide the services you request. You cannot disable these cookies because they are required to operate our website.
- Personalization cookies: These cookies allow us to provide you with online (or in-store) recommendations of products, services and content that match your expectations and preferences.
- Analytics and Performance cookies: These cookies allow us to analyze your use of the website to evaluate and improve our performance, for example, by providing us information about how our site is used.
- Advertising and Social Media cookies: These cookies help us serve relevant ads to you on third party websites and social media platforms. They also help us understand when certain ads have been shown to you and the performance of these ads.
The statistics cookies we use to evaluate usage of our website include Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics.

How do I reject and delete cookies?
You can choose to reject or block all or specific types of cookies set by virtue of your visit to a Shell website by clicking on the cookie preferences link in the footer of our websites. You can also change your preferences for Shell websites and/or the websites of any third-party suppliers by changing your browser settings. If you reject the use of cookies, you will still be able to visit our websites but some of the functions may not work correctly.
Other resources for cookie management include the Network Advertising Initiative (https://thenai.org/about-online-advertising/) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (https://digitaladvertisingalliance.org/). The Digital Advertising Alliance also offers an application called AppChoices (https://youradchoices.com/appchoices) that helps users to control interest-based advertising on mobile apps. You may also visit www.allaboutcookies.org for details on how to delete or reject cookies and for further information on cookies generally. By using our website without deleting or rejecting some or all cookies, you agree that we can place those cookies that you have not deleted or rejected on your device.
Email Tools: Email tracking is often done through pixels embedded in emails, which may send data back to the sender when you open the email. There are several ways to block or reject email tracking, including: (i) you can also change your email settings to block the automatic download of images in email messages, as such images may contain technologies that help us understand how you interact with the message; you can also set your email client to ask before displaying external images; (ii) you can utilize tools to detect and block tracking pixels; (iii) you can adjust your email settings; different email providers allow you to disable tracking in various ways; some email providers also have built-in protections against tracking; and (iv) avoid clicking on links in the email, as some tracking methods use such link clicks to gather data.
